Under Dutch tax rules, a 0% VAT rate may apply to qualifying solar panels installed on or near residential properties. Eligibility depends on the product and installation conditions. Home batteries are generally subject to 21% VAT, but eligible owners may be able to reclaim all or part of the VAT on the purchase and installation if the applicable conditions are met.

There is currently no general national purchase subsidy for residential solar panels or home batteries in the Netherlands. However, some municipalities offer local subsidies, sustainability loans or other financing options. Check the latest schemes with the RVO and your municipality.

Tenants should obtain written permission from their landlord before installing solar panels. If you live in an apartment, approval from the Owners’ Association (VvE) may also be required, particularly when shared areas, the façade or roof are involved.

Always check the applicable rules with your landlord or VvE before installation. As a portable system, SigenMate can be disconnected and taken with you when you move.

Register your solar and storage system with your grid operator before commissioning, using Energieleveren.nl or the registration channel specified by your grid operator.

The Dutch net metering scheme remains in effect until 31 December 2026 and ends by law on 1 January 2027.

After that, exported solar electricity will receive a feed-in compensation instead of being offset against electricity imported from the grid. Storing more of your daytime solar energy for evening use can therefore help you retain more of its value.
